Barberry Toscana™

Barberry Toscana™ is  First Editions® compact, upright-branching deciduous shrub valued for its vibrant foliage and full-to-the-ground habit. The leaves of Barberry Toscana™ are larger than typical barberry foliage and emerge in spring with a showy red color edged with a fine yellow margin.

As summer progresses, the leaves of Barberry Toscana™ darken and eventually develop a rich burgundy tone in fall. For best color, plant Barberry Toscana™ in full sun and well-drained soil.

This durable shrub is drought tolerant and deer resistant, making Barberry Toscana™ a low-maintenance choice for foundation plantings, borders, and landscape accents.

Barberry has known use of the root bark as an anthelmintic, antiseptic and febrifuge, and can be used orally as a treatment for various enteric infections.*

MAINTENANCE NEEDS: Low maintenance.  Some susceptibility to bacterial leaf spot, anthracnose, root rots, wilt, aphids, barberry webworm, and scale.  Highly invasive in the Eastern States.
