Aucuba Picturata
Aucuba Picturata is a shade-loving, variegated evergreen shrub prized for its striking foliage. Aucuba Picturata features glossy leaves with a bold yellow center surrounded by green margins heavily speckled with yellow, creating strong contrast in shaded landscapes. In early spring, Aucuba Picturata produces small maroon flowers, followed on female plants by bright red berries that ripen in fall and persist through winter into spring. Aucuba Picturata prefers rich, moist, well-drained soils and performs best in partial to full shade. Once established, it offers very good drought tolerance and is deer resistant. To maintain its variegation, any solid green stems on Aucuba Picturata should be promptly removed, as this cultivar has a tendency to revert.
