Banana Shrub

Michelia figo

Banana Shrub is a dense broadleaf evergreen shrub with a rounded habit and narrow dark green leaves that stay green year round.  The name comes from the intense banana fragrance of the creamy yellow flowers with a thin red margin that blooms from early spring into summer.  Flowers best in part shade and rich, moist and well-drained soils.  

MAINTENANCE NEEDS: Low maintenance. Water regularly, intolerant of soil extremes (wet or dry).  Few pest or disease issues.

LANDSCAPE USES:  Accents or Group Plantings, Borders, Woodland Gardens, Wildlife Gardens, Naturalized Areas, Foundational Plantings, and Hedges.

COMPANION PLANTS:  Solomon's Seal, Lantana, Fatisa
