Ilex Needlepoint
Ilex Needlepoint (Holly) is a large evergreen shrub valued for its glossy dark green foliage, with spineless leaves that taper to a slight twist for added texture and visual interest. In spring, Ilex Needlepoint produces clusters of small, inconspicuous flowers that, when properly pollinated, develop into abundant bright red berries in fall, persisting well into winter and attracting birds. Ideal for hedges, screens, foundation plantings, or specimen plantings, Ilex Needlepoint thrives in moist, slightly acidic, well-drained soils and adapts well to sun or partial shade. As a dioecious holly, Ilex Needlepoint requires both male and female plants nearby to ensure reliable fruit production. Gardeners appreciate Ilex Needlepoint for its strong structure, seasonal berry display, and dependable year-round evergreen presence in the landscape.
